What is a Digital X-Ray?
An x-ray is a diagnostic test utilizing electromagnetic waves to generate images of the body’s interior. Specifically, a digital x-ray, as the name implies, employs computer technology to produce and store these images.
Differentiating from traditional x-rays, a digital x-ray offers several advantages:
- Is more clear and detailed
- Uses less radiation
- Can be stored on a computer
- Provides images quickly
Why Get a Spine X-Ray?
A spinal x-ray equips our Centennial chiropractor with vital information regarding your spine’s health. This diagnostic tool is instrumental in identifying issues with bones, joints, and discs, and it can also detect complications in ligaments, muscles, and other soft tissues that might not be evident without visual aid.
An x-ray may not always be mandatory but can be suggested based on the symptoms you exhibit, the results of your physical exam, and your medical history. It offers additional insights into your condition, aiding in the formulation of an effective treatment strategy.
Our practice is committed to the responsible use of x-rays, advising them only when they are medically necessary to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. Given the exposure to radiation with x-ray use, we emphasize their cautious application to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
What to Expect When Getting a Spinal X-Ray
Should a spinal x-ray be deemed beneficial, our staff will escort you to the x-ray facility within our clinic. You will be asked to remove any jewelry or metallic objects that could obstruct the imaging process. Once positioned for the x-ray, a team member will exit the room briefly to take the image. To capture a comprehensive view of your spine, multiple images might be taken from different angles. During the process, you may be instructed to hold your breath at times to reduce movement and eliminate image blur.
The x-ray procedure is generally quick, lasting only a few minutes. After the images are captured, they are immediately analyzed on our computers. We will then review and discuss the images with you, explaining the findings and their significance for your health and treatment plan.
