What is a Digital X-Ray?
An x-ray is a diagnostic test utilizing electromagnetic waves to generate images of the body’s interior. Specifically, a digital x-ray, as the name implies, employs computer technology to produce and store these images.
Differentiating from traditional x-rays, a digital x-ray offers several advantages:
- Is more clear and detailed
- Uses less radiation
- Can be stored on a computer
- Provides images quickly
Why Get a Spine X-Ray?
A spinal x-ray provides our chiropractor in Centennial with crucial insights into the condition of your spine. This imaging technique aids in diagnosing issues related to bones, joints, and discs, as well as identifying problems with ligaments, muscles, and other soft tissues that may be challenging to diagnose without visual confirmation.
While not always essential, an x-ray may be recommended based on your symptoms, physical examination findings, and medical history. It serves to provide additional information about your condition, guiding treatment decisions effectively.
We prioritize the judicious use of x-rays, recommending them only when medically necessary for diagnosis and treatment planning. It’s important to note that x-rays involve exposure to radiation, underscoring the importance of employing them only when warranted for optimal patient care and safety.
What to Expect When Getting a Spinal X-Ray
If it’s determined that a spinal x-ray would be beneficial, our team will guide you to the x-ray room within our office. You’ll be asked to remove any jewelry or objects that may interfere with the imaging process. Positioned with the x-ray machine, our team member will step out momentarily to capture the image. Multiple images may be taken from various angles to ensure optimal results. At certain points during the x-ray, you may be prompted to hold your breath to minimize movement and prevent blurring.
Typically, the x-ray procedure lasts only a few minutes. Once the images are obtained, they are promptly reviewed on our computers. We can then share the images with you, discussing the findings and their implications for your health in detail.
